The Nitty Gritty: Beginning at Green Mountain Trail Head, this hike has a strenuous 2 mile start. Once we arrive at Big Meadows, we will keep your eyes open for moose, they have a tendency to graze in the area and are particularly attracted to your guides. The trail continues, following the Tonahutu River upstream for 5 miles along a mellow grade and rewarding hikers with views of Granite Falls. The last mile is a steep trail to the camp site, where rest, wilderness, alpine lakes and tasty food await. This pristine area of the park is relatively untouched, lending to a backpacking experience unlike any other.
